Cell phones have become more than just an outlet to communicate with others, in modern day society a person's cell phone can contain more than just numbers to call. A person's cell phone contains bank information, personal information, and in some cases even information of others. Whenever someone loses their cell phone it's typically a tramatic experience, coupling helplessness and frustration it's always a big deal. The article I read was Most finders of lost phones try to access personal data, survey finds - CNN.com. The article talks at great lengths about how important cell phone safety is. The article talks about how a major company Symantec conducted an experiment to find out what exactly people who find lost cell phones do or plan to do with their new found outlet to another person's world. After the experiement Symantec found that a vast majority of the people who found the phones attempted to access personal files, such as bank accounts or company emails. Having been an individual who has lost multiple cell phones in the past after finish reading this I feel a great deal of uncomfort now. I'm not anyone really important but to know that there is a person somewhere in the world that can access that imformation simply because I didn't put enough thought into protecting myself makes me feel exploited. In the new digital generation people are becoming more and more crafty when it comes to obtaining personal information. This article was an eye opener in terms of making sure I keep my cell phone in my possession and under a heavy lock and key.
I agree with you completely on your opinion of this article. It really is an eye-opener. Phones have gone from a device used to only call people, to someone’s entire world. Phones are used for banking, business, and virtually anything you can think of. If a phone is lost or stolen, that is a lot of information that a stranger can find out. This can lead to a large amount of danger for an individual and their life. As a smartphone owner, my cell phone does contain a lot of information. Not much of this information would be valuable to others, but this article does make me aware of the huge risk I and many others are taking. I will definitely do the same as you and make sure my phone is completely protected. It is sad that most people’s intentions are to gain personal accounts from lost or stolen phones, but we need to be aware of the issue and take the necessary precautions. Great job.
