Facebook Privacy

Facebook password isn't your boss' business" was the article I read, written by Doug Gross on March 22, 2012 from CNN Tech. This article talks about how companies are asking their employees for their password to their Facebook accounts. The reason these companies our doing this is for another use for background checks. In the article a man was asked for his Facebook password so that the company can go on his wall and read his message to prove that he’s not gang affiliated. The article also goes on to state that it’s against Facebook terms of service to share a password. It states “You will not share your password, let anyone else access your account, or do anything else that might jeopardize the security of your account,” the agreement reads. Many readers disagree with the invading of privacy of future workers and went on to say “what’s the next step, a key to my house.” I agree with this reader, I feel that people shouldn’t be judged on what they post on a social network site. I feel your private life and your work life should be separated and not compared to one another. Being that I’m a social media user I can vouch that something people post they either don’t mean or is something to start a conversation. Once again I don’t believe this is a good step to implement in the interviewing processes.
