David J. Barnard- Introduction

My name is David J. Barnard and I was born in Laconia, New Hampshire. I currently live between Gilford, New Hampshire and Lowell, Massachusetts depending on if I stay with my mother or father. I do construction work for my father's company on occasion. I honestly hate doing construction, but it's a pay check and that's why I am still attending school. I am attending Nichols College  in order to get my master's degree. I am a double major in International Business and Criminal Justice. My future plans are to go to law school and become a Corporate Lawyer. I hope that Nichols College brings me the education that I need to get where I want to go in life. I hope to be a very successful person in life and eventually help those who have helped me through the years.

I hope to learn a few different aspects from this Digital Applications course. I hope that I can learn how to use a computer more efficiently. I know a lot about computers but I have never really blogged, nor do I use twitter. I have never really found the use in blogging or twitter because if someone wants to learn about me, they can get to know me in person, not through social media. I hope that this course is interesting and I hope to learn new things about blogging and anything to do with computers.

I read a blog about two parents that took their troubled daughter to the police station as a scare tactic. The mother’s friend had done it the week before without any consequences as compared to them; they were arrested and charged with child endangerment because they were going to leave her in an unsafe environment. It was a police station, how is that an unsafe environment and what message is that sending to the people of in society? There are other blogs on the internet that talk about how using scaring tactics maybe a very helpful tool to discipline children and there are counterparts that would argue it will have a negative effect on the child’s development. I find this interesting because child safety and discipline are critical to a child’s development and how they interact with their peers as adults.

  1. I enjoyed reading your blog. I specially like the idea of you becoming a corporate lawyer. That sounds like a very interesting career to follow. It sounds like you have it down packed and have your future in your hands, with your double major and future plans. You also metion the story about the parents and the scare tactic. I agree with you in the fact that if it was a police station, it was not unsafe. Perhapss it was in the way that the parents aproched the situation. Are scare tactics always necesary? Perhaps yes and perhaps no but I think parent should be careful how they discipline their children. But in the other hand perhaps there is not enough discipline.

  2. Wow David, you never told me you wanted to be a lawyer. That's a great aspiration; you'd make mad money. I read the blog you posted about and i think it's crazy that happened to them. Being arrested for taking your Child to the police station is definately a double standard; it makes no sense.
