Hi, my name is Steven Miller. I am a Massachusetts native. I current attend college for a Business Management degree. I currently have a town job working for the water division. During my first semester of college I decided to join the rugby team, even though I have never played rugby before I was interested in it. I now start for the varsity team as a freshman. The rugby team is not really a team since the sport is not accepted by the NCAA. They do not accept the sport because it is too dangerous. In my personal opinion I do not think it is too dangerous, there are plenty of rules incorporated into rugby that prevent harsh injuries. Rugby is the most physically demanding sport a man, or woman can play. You need a very good diet, one that is high in carbohydrates, fats, and protein. The reason is because rugby players use nearly all of their energy in one day. On average rugby players run at least five miles a game. This is almost like sprinting five miles.  Rugby is a very high speed game; there is no stoppage of play every time someone goes down. There is only stoppage of play when someone commits a penalty, for example a high tackle, or reaching in to a ruck. Also the ball a rugby player uses is like an over pumped football and you through it underhand. Today rugby as a sport is on the rise to become a very popular international sport, and is currently waiting for a bid in the Olympics. To me this is interesting because then teams would not be so strong; they would have to divide their team up so that each person could go play for their country, therefore creating a new competitive game.
What I would like to gain from this class is that I can upgrade my skills when using a computer. Businesses are very tech savvy; they do use a lot of technologies for meetings, reports, and stock trade. Also I can be more prepared in college by learning more about the features of the computer, like power point, Microsoft word, and other computer applications.

  1. Interesting blog Steve! Rugby seems like it is a very intense game. How long have you been playing rugby? It sounds like a lot of fun. I did not realize how much running a rugby player does, in one game. Would you consider rugby your favorite sport? Do teams make up their own plays or do they just go with it? Rugby looks as if it is a mixture of soccer and football. What are the rules and regulations when playing rugby? I have to disagree with you when you say that rugby is not dangerous. All sports can be dangerous, rugby especially. With pads and helmets people get hurt I can only imagine playing with no pads or helmets, you would think it makes it much easier for someone to get hurt. It will be interesting to see if rugby ends up in the Olympics, I think a lot of people would find it entertaining.
