The article I chose is
called “Over 3 Years later, “deleted” Facebook photos are still online.” It was
written by Jacqui Cheng very recently, as it was published on February 7th
2012. This article is about some pictures on Facebook that were uploaded by
users, and deleted sometime after they were uploaded. But the problem that occurred
is that some pictures were never completely deleted and they were still left on
the website. This may have caused a lot of trouble because people put pictures
on Facebook that were taken at parties where they may appear under the
influence in those pictures. People regret putting some pictures on Facebook,
and would be much happier if they were to be completely taken down. Those
pictures may be viewed by potential jobs and bosses, which may have an impact
on the decision of the company from hiring them. This problem is rather
serious, as each day thousands of people create a Facebook profile, and
millions of photos are uploaded each day. These photos have been resurfacing
over the years, which angers users. The author uses an example in the article,
saying “One reader linked me to a photo that a friend
of his had posted of his toddler crawling naked on the lawn. He asked his
friend to take it down for obvious reasons, and so the friend did -- in May of
2008. As of this writing in 2012, I have personally confirmed that the photo is
still online, as are several others that readers linked me to that were deleted
at various points in 2009 and 2010.” Facebook is infamously known for changing
their layout multiple times, and they usually are not helpful and it just makes
things a lot more difficult to do on the website. I think that Facebook should not
spend the useless time that they do trying to update their website, and just
spend that time trying to find a resolution to this problem. It is ridiculous that
a website that has made billions of dollars cannot figure out how to do such a
simple task.
Hey Greg, this is a interesting article. I don’t really like Facebook at all because I have heard how when you delete something its not fully deleted. It does ruin peoples hopes with future jobs. Like you said that poor guy with his naked son on the lawn. His buddy deleted it but people still see it couple years later. Facebook isn’t really fair to people. They try to screw you over for jobs. Facebook should learn to fix this problem if they want to keep people from using it. I wonder if Twitter does the same thing or not. Lately Facebook has been doing weird things like the timeline. It makes it much more sketchy. I’m not a fan of Facebook if I want to get rid of a picture I want it completely deleted not just so you cant see it. Overall Greg, I think you did a great job on this blog, and you put in a picture like Professor wanted.
